| Prog Spring of 2012 continues. Today we meet OccuPoet Misty Rowan of Minneapolis, who will grace us with one of her poems. Misty came to my attention via this THREAD in DUmmieland, "Our Amazing Occupy Poet!" I watched the video, and yes, I was amazed . . . at what passes for poetry with the OWSies and the DUmmies. | It took me until now to respond to the poem, What Must Be Said, by Günter Wilhelm Grass. I, a literary critic, am not as quick on the draw as Shas' Eli Yishai who declared the Nobel Prize winning octogenarian a persona non grata. Instead, I like to think about the lyric, let it soak in. She was 82. Rich died Tuesday at her Santa Cruz home from complications from rheumatoid arthritis, said her son, Pablo Conrad. She had lived in Santa Cruz since the 1980s. | Bring Spoken Word to CPAC Conservatives constantly clamor that they need to find a way to approach more demographics – particularly minorities and the youth. Yet, when events like the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) come around, you see mainly old, rich, white men speaking on stage for hours and hours. Michelle Obama has invited rapper "Common" to the White House to read poetry. Conservative groups are displeased with the invitation and that is causing a predictable reaction from the left: Even though it's 2011, we're still litigating whether rap music in and of itself is a societal corrosive or an artistic expression that channels raw experience and expurgates emotions in the form of a catharsis.
